That! Was! Awesome!
I had the pleasure of sitting down with Global Industry Analyst and Thought Leader, Josh Bersin, to talk about what I think has been largely overlooked as the pandemic quickly changed what we thought we knew about where, when and how we work – the deskless worker.
The deskless workforce is about 75% of the global working population – think hourly employees, people that may not have device, truck drives, nurses or people on the manufacturing shop floor, etc… - so how is it they haven’t been at the forefront of all the discussions? Beats me.
We are in a fast-growing economy that is dynamic. People issues have become central and moved to the spotlight throughout the pandemic which has emerged a new war on talent, a renewed focus on employee experience, well-being and safety, reskilling and upskilling, and so much more that has put HR in the center of innovation.
During this session, Josh highlights some surprising data around workforce disruption, hiring trends, insight into dealing with the new world of talent – but my favorite part has to be when he talked about 3 companies who are thinking strategically and using technology to do innovative things to best support deskless workers.
Things like:
<spoiler alert>
- Geofencing for clocking in and out
- Auto-scheduling roles
- Shift-trading
- Real-time pay
- Faster onboarding
- New online learning
- Rewards and recognition
- So much more…
